Glenn James Zimmerman ("Pete"), 82, Duluth MN, died at home with his family on September 3, 2016. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a. m. Saturday, September 17, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, North Dakota. The Reverend Dick Hendrickson will conduct the service. Lunch will be provided at the church.
Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison ND is in charge of arrangements.
Glenn was born to Herman and Beatrice (Ziegler) Zimmerman, the fourth of their seven children. The family farmed in the Emmet, ND area where he attended the Hackett Country School. He was graduated from Garrison High School in 1951 after which he enlisted in the U. S. Navy. His active service was four years from 1952 to 1956 after which he was subject to recall in the Naval Reserve until 1960. He served on the USS Gearing, a destroyer (GMM3).
He was an ironworker before an apprenticeship and primary employment as an electrical utility lineman and troubleshooter for Minnesota Power.
Glenn's immediate family are his wife of 49 years, Alma (Norquist) (Erb), and his stepson Eric (Mary) Erb, Santa Fe NM.
Memberships included Elks fraternal organization, American Legion, Family of God Lutheran Church, and I. B.E. W. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoors person.
In addition to his wife and stepson, he is survived by his brother, Dale (Helen) Zimmerman, sister, Sharon Eslinger and many extended family members and friends. His parents, sister, Donna, and brothers, Duane, Gene, and Don preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers, charities of the donors' choices are preferred.
