Hazel (Narum) O'Shea, 90, died Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison ND surrounded by her children. Her children cherish the time they shared with Hazel during her final days.

Hazel was born July 29, 1927 in Rosemount Township, McLean County, to Nels and Hilda (Kuntz) Narum. She attended the Crystal School in Rosemount Township and high school in Douglas, ND graduating in 1945. Hazel attended Minot State Teachers College receiving a teaching certificate and taught at schools near Walcott, ND and Douglas, ND.
In 1946, Hazel met John O'Shea at a dance where he was a banjo player in a local band. He gave her a wink that evening while she was dancing and the rest is history. Hazel and John were married on her 20th birthday, July 29, 1947 in Garrison, ND. They lived on John's family grain farm west of Garrison from 1948 to 1975 building up a grade A dairy operation, where they raised five children The dairy operation was sold in 1975 when they moved to a home south of Garrison. After several years they moved to Garrison where they lived until John passed away in 2005. Hazel moved to The Meadows, an assisted living facility within the Benedictine Living Center in 2011. She lived out her life at BLC receiving great care and companionship from many caregivers who worked there.
Hazel brought her sense of humor with her to BLC and was known to crack jokes and even pull a prank or two. Hazel's sense of humor is something she shared with her brothers and sisters and passed on to her children. Laughter always filled the room when they spent time together.
Besides working side by side on the dairy farm, Hazel and John shared many interests. They loved to dance, even dancing across the stage at a local musical. During their retirement, Hazel and John took up golfing and spent time on Lake Sakakawea with family and friends on their barge called the Liberty Lady. John was an accomplished carpenter with Hazel by his side, cleaning up or putting on the finish coat. Hazel also was an avid journalist, daily, writing in her diary for over 60 years.
Hazel was an active member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Anne's Altar Society Blackwater Boosters Homemakers Club and Garrison TOPS Club. She was the clerk of the White Shield School Board for 12 years.
