Obituary

Our dear loved one, Helen "Yvonne" Wells White, peacefully journeyed Home to the Lord on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at her home in Walthill Nebraska with her family by her side. Yvonne was born on October 17, 1939 to Ralph Jr. & Olive Sherwood Wells at Elbowoods ND. She was educated at Nishu Day School and Flandreau Indian School where she graduated in 1957. She went onto Bacone College with Lavonne Howling Wolf Bruce, Geraldine Howling Wolf Packineau, Rosella Youngbear, and Milton Baker. She moved to Denver CO and married Gene White and they raised their family of 5 children in the Denver area for 40 years.

Throughout her life, Yvonne was a hard working woman, always providing for her family and unafraid of hard work. She was a gifted quilt maker who lost count of the number of quilts created during her lifetime. She passed this talent onto her daughters. In her younger years, Yvonne was well known as a cowgirl and barrel racer. She had musical talent and could play several instruments. Our family enjoyed gatherings when Yvonne and her aunts and sisters would sing, especially favorite family hymns.

Around 2000, Yvonne & Gene moved to his homelands in Winnebago NE. They adopted granddaughter Allina. He passed in August 2005. Shortly after, in 2006, their daughter Jeannie passed unexpectedly and left 4 daughters. Yvonne raised them and provided a loving home. She was a very humble lady, cherished all her family and supported her relatives by traveling from Denver and Winnebago to attend milestone events. She had a kind and generous heart, always opening her home to others whether they were relatives or not.. On February 3, 2015, Yvonne entered the hospital and when the doctors said they could do no more, she was sent home under hospice care. Her sister Suzie Decouteau-Mesteth provided loving care during her last weeks at home.

We express our sincere gratitude to our favorite nurse/auntie Suzie. She enabled Yvonne to pass with dignity and family at her side. Yvonne's children & grandchildren took turns sitting with her and helping care for her. Yvonne expressed her desire to go home and the family did everything they could to make it happen in accordance with her wishes.

Yvonne will be always missed
by her loving family
