Hildegard Martin, 96, Albany, OR, formerly of Garrison, died July 28, 2015 at an adult foster care in Albany. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in rural Garrison.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Hildegard was born February 12, 1919 in Ketz, Germany to Kristof and Ottilie Friedrich. She married Karl Martin on May 10, 1941 in Nasswerder, Arthegau, Poland. Hildegard and Karl lived in West Germany for a short time before moving to the U.S. They first lived in Hazelton, where they worked on a farm. They then moved to the Douglas and Emmet area, before settling in Garrison.
Hildegard was well known for her large garden. She could usually be found weeding and caring for her bountiful vegetables. She was most famous for her pickles, which she graciously gave to whomever asked.
Hildegard is survived by 2 daughters, Wally McRorie, and Alize Johnson; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 2 step granddaughters; and 2 step great granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl, one daughter, Irma Carnly, 2 sons-in-law, Joseph McRorie and Alvin Bauer, and a grandson, Christ Bauer.
