Irene Boger, 91, Garrison, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016 at the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Irene was the daughter of the late John E. and the late Pauline (Kempf) Boger. She was born May 5, 1925 in Garrison, ND, baptized June 2, 1925, and confirmed July 5, 1942 in the Lutheran faith.
She attended country school in Snow Twsp. As a young girl she walked quite a distance to school and in the winter, her dad would take her and her sibling to school with a horse and sleigh. In the summertime she was kept busy helping with chores and tending to a big garden. Her mother did a lot of canning vegetables, meat, jellies and jam. Virtually everything was canned as they didn't have electricity.
Irene lived with her parents and later was their caretaker. In 1948 her parents moved to a farm near Benedict and in 1967 they moved to Garrison. Her dad died in 1981 and in 1986, she and her mom moved to the McLean Manor. Her mom died in 2002 at the age of 104! In 2011, Irene moved to the Garrison Memorial Hospital due to health reasons.
Irene enjoyed taking long walks. Even up to her church and the nursing home. Church was very important to her. Now she's at peace with her Lord.

Irene is survived by one brother, Melvin, Minot, ND; two sisters and an brother-in-law, Hilda (Ernest) Kohler, and Ruby Westman, all of Benedict, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Everyone Irene met was her friend and always had a big smile for everyone!

She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 infant, brothers, 2 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, 1 niece and 1 nephew.
