James "Jim" Bernard Hansen was born August 29, 1950 in Minot, ND to Mervyn and Bonnie (Shaw) Hansen. JB, as his mother called him, was baptized and confirmed at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Makoti. He grew up on the family farm in Gate Township, 10 miles southwest of Ryder. He attended Hiddenwood School #2 through the 5th grade and graduated from Ryder High School in 1968. Jim had the distinction of having perfect attendance all through 12 years of school, a feat of which he was very proud.
After graduation he had various jobs in Garrison, Minot, Williston and Fargo. Following a work related back injury, he went back to college at NDSSS in Wahpeton for Informational Technology and held jobs in the computer repair field. After moving back to Ryder to live in his boyhood home he began working for Cenex in Ryder. He thoroughly enjoyed his job and looked forward to work each day.
Jim was a quiet man with many little hobbies. He had many collections that he treasured, always reviewing and adding to them. He was forever tinkering with something, hunting, and fishing and in recent years had become quite the gardener. He also loved watching NASCAR, often recording the races to review them again later. He had an insatiable quest for knowledge about his hobbies, especially guns and ammunition.
Jim left his mark in memories for his loving family that includes, brothers, Don, Minot, ND, Randy (Salome), Fertile, MN; sister, Linda (Tim) Delzer, Douglas, ND; nephews, Cory (Amber) Hansen, Minot, ND, Russell (Jaime) Delzer, Climax, MN, Brad (Sonja) Delzer, Fargo, ND, Matt Delzer, Ripon, WI, Paul (April) Hansen, East Grand Forks, MN; 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew, Kymberly and McKenzie Hansen, Katelyn Delzer, Ava and Landon Hansen; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
