James "Jim" Huston, 81, Garrison, died on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18th, 2017 at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Jim was born June 21, 1935 in Redlands, CA to Henry and Nettie (Houtcooper) Huston. He was raised on a farm 8 miles west of Garrison and attended country school in Platt Township. He continued his schooling in Garrison, graduating from Garrison High School in 1953.

Jim married Gloria Lagge on January 17, 1955. Together, they farmed and ranched on the Houtcooper Farmstead and raised their 5 kids, Steve, Rod, Lynn, Darrin, and Laurie. Jim was a very hardworking man, always making sure that his family came first. Even at the end of long days, the kids could convince him to take them camping, go fishing, or go for a snowmobile ride. That dedication continued on to his grandchildren. He loved to spend time with them, even if it meant hauling a load of grain to town and it taking a very, very long time to unload because of a "coffee" stop. His love for his family will live on through them!

Though family and the farm came first, Jim was also very active on numerous boards and area activities. He was an EMT and was on the Garrison Ambulance Board for a number of years. He was also involved with the Crop Improvement Association, Garrison Sportsman's Club, and the Roughrider's Snowmobile Club. In his spare time, he was a field reporter and measured fields and bins for the ASCS.

Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing along with camping, playing pinochle and snowmobiling. Sausage making was also an annual family tradition Jim enjoyed, mostly because his whole family was involved. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh. He also had a lot of one liners that his family would like to share but some we can't put in print!

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Steve (Brenda) Huston, Rod Huston, all of Garrison, Lynn (Brad) Wise, Bismarck, Darrin Huston , Lincoln, Laurie (Lee Anderson) Huston, Bismarck, grandchildren, Joey and Becky Huston, Shane and Brooke Wise, Logan Huston, and Croix Lawler, and mother-in-law, Tessie Lagge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Nettie Huston, and father-in-law Edwin Lagge.
