Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2012. She was fifty-five years old. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Thursday, August 23rd, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at the Ralph Wells Memorial Complex in White Shield.

Janet was born on June 28, 1957 at Minot, North Dakota to Julia Bluestone and Harry Grady. Janet came from a family of six: three brothers and three sisters. As a child and teenager, she spent many hours helping her mother with the family garden and learning how to cook and can vegetables. Janet graduated from White Shield High School in 1977. She was active in basketball while in high school. After graduation, she attended college at Minot State University and the University of North Dakota.

Janet lived most of her adult life in the White Shield area. She was a skilled homemaker. Janet married Olin "Blackie" Howard in 1980. They were blessed with four children. Janet later married Gary Slind in 2007 and they made their home in rural Roseglen. She helped with the family farm. She helped raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed working in the garden growing beets, corn, and potatoes. She enjoyed canning. She made excellent canned beets and pickles.

Janet worked various jobs over the years including the Medora Summer Programs, Mandaree Enterprises, and Uniband, where she earned her five year employment certificate.

Janet was a member of the Low Cap clan of the Hidatsa. She was a child of the Flint Knife clan. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Roseglen.

Janet is survived by her children Lujuanna Howard, Fargo, Wilbur Howard, Bismarck, Angela Howard, Roseglen, Mari Anna Howard (Rodney Sam), Wakpala, South Dakota; brothers Arnold Grady, rural Parshall, Robert Grady Sr., Houston, TX, Raymond Grady, White Shield; sisters Margaret A. Winanz (Denby), New Town, Christine A. Grady (Thomas), rural Parshall, Elan Cunningham, Helen Grant, and Josie Costanza, Omaha, NE, Donna "Dottie" Poitra, White Shield, Audrey Bluestone, Parshall; grandchildren Cierra Marie Howard, Oscar John Howard III, and James Louis Malling; many nieces and nephews; and aunties' Ella Mae (Bluestone) Baker and Phyllis (Bluestone) Wells (Steve).

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents' Tom & Margaret Bluestone, paternal grandparents' Charles Grady Sr. & Jessie Ward, brother Myron L. Grady, and sister Corrine Grant.
