Jean Marie Short, 50, Garrison, died Saturday at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison with her loving family at her side after a long battle with brain cancer.
Jean was born at Kensal, ND April 14, 1961 to Terence and Gayle (Pierce) Short. She was raised and attended school in McHenry, ND. After high school, she attended and received a degree from Interstate Business College in Fargo. Through the years Jean worked at NDSU, Fargo, Computers Unlimited in Billings, Montana, and worked from home for Spheres Transcription Company. In 2009, she took classes to become a certified nursing assistant and medication assistant. She then began a career in her final and most rewarding job. Jean worked at Benedictine Living Center until she was diagnosed with cancer. She was passionate about the care that she was able to provide to the neighbors, especially those suffering from Dementia.
Jean was blessed through her union with Andrew Zink to give birth to the true loves of her life, her daughters, Karly and Emily. Added to her family is her son-in-law, Willy (Karly) Dewitz and granddaughter, Shyloh Jean.
Jean loved to sing and sang frequently in her churches including St Nicholas Catholic Church prior to becoming a devoted member of the Assembly of God Church, both in Garrison. Jean served in both parishes as a worship leader. Jean graced many who knew her with the beautiful quilts that she created.
She also had a passion for animals and loved spending hours with her horse, Rio, and the many dogs and cats that she raised over the years. Jean loved her many nieces and nephews, family and friends and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with them.
Jean is survived by parents, Terence and Shirley Short; daughters, Karly (Willy) Dewitz and Emily Zink, both of Garrison; granddaughter, Shyloh Dewitz; sisters, Theresa Hazemann, Moorhead, Minn; Denise (Tom) Christianson, Upham, ND, Laura (Ron) Rader, Lakota, ND, Connie (Bruce) Klein, Minot, ND; and brother, Terry (Paula) Short, Fargo ND.
Jean is preceded in death by her mother, Gayle Short; step- brother, David Norgaard; nephew, Brandon Klein; and maternal and paternal grandparents; brother-in-law, Jeff Hazemann; and great niece, Avyn Iglehart.
Memorial Services will be on Thursday, November 17th, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Assembly of God Church in Garrison. Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 18th, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McHenry, ND. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
