JoAnn Marie Zimmerman, 78, of Garrison, ND died November 23, 2016 in the Garrison Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will held 11:00 AM Monday, November 28, 2016 at First Congregational Church, Garrison with Reverend Janis Sloka III officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Inurnment will be held on Tuesday in the Garrison City Cemetery.
JoAnn Marie Zimmerman was born in Garrison on December 17, 1937 to Joseph J. and
Genevieve (Robbins) Hutmacher. She was raised and educated in Garrison and
graduated from Garrison High School in 1955. During WWII, she also lived in
Vancouver, WA, for a short time while her father worked in the shipyards. She was
confirmed and married at the First Congregational Church. She married Gene
Zimmerman on September 29, 1957. They lived on the farmstead in Emmet and raised
six children. She helped with the farm in addition to working at Garrison Family
Clinic and Garrison Memorial Hospital and BHG.
JoAnn had an active social calendar as she participated in the following: Garrison
Ambulance Crew, Garrison Ambulance Board, West River Transportation, school
activities bus driver, Lamplighters Senior Center President, Mercer McLean Counties
Commission on Aging (Meals on Wheels).
She was actively involved in the First Congregational Church's Town and Country
Circle, Diaconate and the UCC Ladies Aid.
She enjoyed crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family and friends,
playing Scrabble and Mexican Train. In the past few years, she loved playing cards
with her lady friends. She enjoyed music all her life and loved playing piano. She
had enthusiasm for life, adventure and family. She always wanted to go places she
had never been, see things she had never seen and eat something she had never eaten.
JoAnn is survived by her six children: Aaron (Pam) Zimmerman, Colstrip, MT; Karla
(Steve) Fischer, Garrison; Joel (Kathe) Zimmerman, Colstrip, MT; Karen (Jim)
Krzmarzick, Garrison; Carol (Ralph) Chase, Redding, CA; Wendy (Jeff) Acton,
Colstrip, MT; 12 grandchildren: Eric Zimmernan, Dana (Allen) Fulton, Jami
Zimmerman, Cody (Angie) Zimmerman, Beau Zimmerman; Jesse and Austin Zimmerman; Joey, Jenna and Mara Krzmarzick; Dereck (Sable) Kerzmann, Lexie Acton; and 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dale & Helen Zimmerman, Joan Zimmerman, Alma Zimmerman, and Sharon Eslinger; and a number of wonderful extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents in 1985 and her husband Gene in 2003.
