Johanna (JoAnn) Olson, 76, Minot, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at a Minot nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Max.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Johanna was born Feb. 16, 1936, to Valentine and Elizabeth (Jantzer) Schafer at rural Flasher. She graduated from Mandan High School and was employed by Hoskins-Meyer Floral of Bismarck.
JoAnn was united in marriage to Lawrence Stein in Mandan on Oct. 11, 1954. They moved to Minot in 1956, where she was employed in a number of businesses, including Ben Franklin and the 52 Club. During their marriage they also resided at rural Butte, rural Surrey and Benedict. They later divorced.
JoAnn enjoyed bowling, dancing and playing cards. On July 8, 1983, she married Marvin Olson in Washburn. They farmed and ranched at rural Max, and JoAnn worked at the Garrison Nursing Home. After Marvin retired, they moved into Max in 2001. Marvin died on July 5, 2010, and JoAnn moved to Manor Care in Garrison, then to Trinity Nursing Home in Minot.
JoAnn is survived by her children: Arnie Stein, Minot; Larry (Tina) Stein, Minot; Ron (Jeanne) Stein, Minot; Laura (Kevin Clouse), Langdon; Todd (Marilyn) Stein, Sawyer; daughter-in-law: Cheryl Stein, Surrey; grandchildren: Michael (Suzi) Stein, Jennifer (Guy Hanley), Kristi (Mark) Schaefer; Tina Johnson; Ethan and Austin Stein; Kelvin, Julia and Jalane Clouse; Jeff and Shandra Stein; great-grandchildren: Britton (Brandon) Bissette, Brenna and Devin Stein; Jack, Oliver and Henry Schaefer; great-great-grandchildren: Roman Bissette and Laila Stein; numerous step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great-grandchild ; Sisters: Josephine (Matt) Erhardt, Edith (Jim) Hellman and Pauline (Art) Hellman; Stepbrothers: Dave Wetch (friend, Deloris), Jim (Jean Wetch), and George "Butch" (Janice) Wetch; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Marvin; her parents; brother, Raymond Schafer; and grandson, Jesse Stein.
