John Chickosky, 87, Garrison, died on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Friday at 7:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Garrison.
There will be no reviewal, but family and friend may sign a register on Friday from 5 to 7 at the church.
John W. Chickosky was born in rural Bowman, ND on August 29, 1926 to John and Elizabeth Chickosky. He graduated from Wilton High School and joined the US Navy. He served in the Pacific on the USS Jason.
Following his discharge, John went to work as a drag line operator at the Truex Mine east of Garrison. When the mine closed, he went to work for the Garrison Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department.
John married Florence Blanchard on September 19, 1970. They resided on a farm west of Garrison until moving into Garrison in 1994. Florence died in June of 2007. John continued living in their home in Garrison until the time of his death.
John is survived by one step-son, Glen (Donna) Blanchard, Kindred, ND; one step-daughter, Joyce (Tom) Gross, Jamestown, ND; 6 grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Florence, several siblings, and one great-grandson.
