June Eagle, 77, White Shield, died on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison with Rev. Wesley Duane Fox officiating. A family gathering will be held at the White Shield Pow Wow grounds following services.

June A. Eagle was born September 21, 1942 in Niobrara, Nebraska to Rev. Robert and Niomi Fox. She grew up in large family and was the eldest daughter. She attended school at Elbowoods, Twin Buttes, St.Mary's Schools, and graduated from White Shield High School as the Valedictorian. June was honored as the Homecoming Queen for St. Mary's School, Miss Ft. Berthold, Miss Centennial Princess, Miss Congeniality, and she was a contestant for Miss Indian World.
June furthered her education by attending business school in Cleveland, OH and nursing school in Philadelphia, PA.
June and Thomas (Tooksie) grew up together in Elbowoods and White Shield. They married in 1963 and relocation took them to California and Thomas's military duty took them to Massachusetts.Together June and Tooksie had five children. Kelly, twins Thomas and Robert, Shelly, and Kathryn. She loved her children. She was blessed to have spent time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It wasn't until letter in life after the loss of her father that June decided to return to college and become a registered nurse. Lessons she has learned from her father was that you can not help anyone unless you help yourself. She went on to graduate from Ft. Berthold Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and later graduated from University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She believed we are always learning and it's never you never told. She often teased about being the oldest on campus.
June's professional career begin at the Minne Tohe Clinic where she was a clerk for the Public Nursing. It was at this time that she started to attend Ft. Berthold Community College. Upon completion of the LPN program she worked at Garrison Memorial Hospital. June worked among the White Mountain Apache people at the White River Service Unit and Cibecue Health Center as a Public Health Nurse. She later transfer to Belcourt IHS always wanting to come home. She eventually returned home to Minne Tohe Clinic and retired as a result of her health.
June enjoyed football and her favorite team was the Green Bay Packers. She loved reading, gardening, baking, and canning. Everyone loves her hot pickles and choke cherry jam and syrup. She was always trying new recipes but some of the favorite recipes came from her mothers old cookbook. Other things June enjoyed included participating in White Shield Elders andPost 253 Ladies Auxiliary.
June was diagnosed with lung cancer and fought hard. Anyone who knew June knows she is gentle spirit who spoke softly and was always willing to help with what ever was asked. The staff at the White Shield Clinic and Sanford Health Center always commented on how nice and sweet she was.
