Karen Ann (Everett) Mulluk was born April 28, 1949, to Teddy and Betty (Fox) Everett. She was given her Indian name "Morning Star", by her great grandma, Fanny Everett. She attended school in White Shield, Wahpeton, and then graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1969. She then traveled to San Diego, CA where she earned associate degree in Business and was working on her bacholer's degree. While in San Diego, Karen met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Mulluk Jr. Together they raised seven children. They made their home at Kotzebue, AK, where she was a magister judge, social worker, and foster parent, which worked perfectly because of her love of children. She was taught by her mother-in-law how to make traditional clothing which continued to her making parkas for her family. While living in Alaska, Karen learned the Inupiaq traditional way and language, which was wonderful way for she and Bob to speak and listen.
In 1997 the family moved to White Shield. She was excited for her children to learn the Sahnish way of life. It was very important to her that her children kept the tradition of both cultures from which they were born.
Karen's hobbies included pow-wows, bingo, going to the casino, and just hanging out with family.
Karen is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob, her children, Clara, Dorvan, Tilmer, Russell, Aqpik, Melissa, and Betty; thirty-two grandchildren and great-grandchildren, siblings, Lloyd Everett, Clarine Oshkeshequoem, and adopted brother, Edward Everett.
She will be welcomed home by her parents, Betty and Teddy, son, Louie, grandparents, Claire and Fanny Everett, George and Edna Marsette, siblings, Lucky, Russell, Marlin, Ben, Carmelita, and Corey. She was very close to her mother-in-law, Keda Mulluk, and father-in-law, Robert Mulluk, Sr.
If you knew Karen as a friend, she also had your back. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
