Obituary

Larry "Iver" D. Iverson, 68, of rural Garrison, ND died peacefully Monday, October 21, 2013 at his home. He was diagnosed with cancer in September.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison, ND. A Private Burial will be in the Garrison City Cemetery. Pastor Dick Hendrickson will be officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Hugh P. Minehan American Legion Post 49. Visitation will be from 3 - 8 P.M. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Camp of the Cross, Hugh P. Minehan American Legion Post 49, or Donor's Choice.

Larry was born on February 20, 1945 to Edmund and Bertha (Rath) Iverson in Minot, North Dakota. He graduated from Garrison High School in 1963. After graduation, he attended NDSU. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service until 1967. In March of 1968, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Lewis, Washington. After a tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam with the 9th Infantry Division, he completed his active service in March of 1970 in Ft. Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged in March of 1974. He worked construction, and then went back to NDSU for 2 quarters. In 1974, he moved back to the family farm. On June 12, 1976 he married Sharon Kay Fast in Garrison, ND. The couple had 2 children. The Iverson farm was 100 years old in 2007. He farmed until his retirement in 2008. As a family, they enjoyed spending time at the lake; boating and camping, hunting, and farming. He enjoyed "tinkering" in his shop and around the farm. When asked recently, "What can I get you Dad?" he replied, "I have it all right here, my family."

He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. He was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Emmet where he was a very active member. He served many years on the St. Peter's Church Council and the Prairie Rose Lutheran Church Board. He was a member of the American Legion Club Post 49, VFW Post 6940, Vietnam Veterans of America, Totten Trail Snowmobile Club, Garrison Farmers Union Elevator Board, Garrison Rural Fire Department, Lake Sakakawea M.E.Y. Club, Garrison Sportsman's Club, and NRA.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 37 years, Sharon of rural Garrison; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Mindy Iverson of Bismarck, ND; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Dirk Dietz of St. Paul, NE; grandchildren, Jack and Julia Iverson of Bismarck, ND and Scotlyn Dietz of St. Paul, NE; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim Iverson of Garrison, ND, Dick and Sue Iverson of Bismarck, ND, Ed and Sally Iverson of Bismarck, ND; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Al Fast of Idaho Springs, Colorado, Diana Minette and Wayne Krause of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dennis and Martie Fast of Golden, Colorado; special family friend, Joyce Pfliger of rural Garrison; godchildren, Carla Rime of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Michael Lee of Fargo, ND; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Bertha Iverson; mother-in-law, Olga Rostad; and great-nephew, Dylan Lechman.
