IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry
Schauer;
March 1, 1945 – July 11, 2018
Larry Schauer, 73, Garrison, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home from pancreatic cancer surrounded by his family and under the care of St. A's Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Underwood.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 to 5 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Larry was born March 1, 1945 along with his twin brother, Gary, in Underwood, ND to Robert and Irene (Johnson) Schauer. He grew up in Underwood and graduated from Underwood High School. He worked one summer for the railroad in McLean County and spent many summers working in Beloit, WI as a teen.
Larry married Diane Mitchell on May 7, 1968. They lived in Beloit, WI for 4 years. He later worked as a custodian at McDonald's in Beloit. In June of 1972, they moved to Bismarck where he worked for Apple Valley Golf Course and then K-Mart, doing custodial work at both.
In 1973, Larry began his long career as head custodian at Bob Callies Elementary School in Garrison. Larry worked at the school for 34 years. Larry took great pride in his work, and the kids and teachers at the school loved him for his hard work and dedication. In 2007, Larry retired and spent most of his time relaxing and being content at home with his cat, Sybil. Larry deserved his retirement and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
Larry loved to fish and hunt upland game. He always had a big garden in the summer and was a great cook, using much of the produce to make wonderful meals for his family. He also had a great personality and loved to joke around. Larry's true passion was the Minnesota Vikings. The word "fan", is short for fanatic, and that was Larry. His motto could have been, "God, Country, and the Minnesota Vikings", and he bled purple and gold!
Larry is survived by his wife, Diane, Garrison, children, Sheila, Scott, and Kelly; 3 grandchildren, Mitzi Goodin, Heather Schauer, and Britany Doll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and twin brother, Gary, grandchildren, Monica and Matthew, and sisters, Joyce Sterns and Ruby Kroll.
