Larry Anthony Senger, 57, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away December 11, 2012 at Eventide Nursing Center in Moorhead, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. A rosary will be said on Thursday, January 17th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison. The family welcomes friends to come visit from 6:00 p.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church.
Larry Senger was born on August 21, 1955 in Dickinson, ND to Adam and Elizabeth (Streifel) Senger. He was raised in Dodge and Garrison, North Dakota and graduated from Garrison in 1973.
On August 9, 1973, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal (Korea), and was classified as an expert in Rifle M-16A1. Larry was honorably discharged on August 9, 1976.
Larry attended Minot State University after his discharge. In North Dakota, Larry worked for the ND State Penitentiary, and the ND State Highway department. He moved to Minnesota and worked for a US Arsenal, and most recently for the State of Minnesota until his retirement in 2012.
Larry was once married to Chris Farrell.
Larry enjoyed reading and collecting books. He was no stranger to antique shops and flea markets. He was a lover of history and geography and often shared his knowledge with others while driving around the countryside. Larry will be missed by family and friends, most especially, his dog, "Yobo Yobowsky".
Survivors: sisters, Eva Leidholm, Washburn, ND and Mary Ann (Ronald) Flath, Garrison, ND: brothers, Joseph (Judith), Mesa, AZ and David (Jean), Minot, ND: brother-in-law, Myron Kerzmann, Minot, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be made to the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery.
