Obituary

Lavinia Hopkins, 80, died on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Garrison Memorial Hospital, Garrison, ND. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary and vigil service will be held on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the church. Visitation will held on Friday, March 6, from 1-4 p.m at Thompson Funeral Home.

Lavinia Marie Hopkins was born on Dec. 18, 1934 to Sebastian and Theresia Haffner in Esmond, ND. She had 4 sisters and 5 brothers and grew up on a farm near Esmond. Lavinia graduated from Esmond High School in May of 1952. She attended St. Alexius School of Nursing in September of 1952 and graduated as a Registered Nurse in September of 1955.

She married Wayne Hopkins, the love of her life, on November 19, 1957. They lived on a farm 12 miles south of Ryder until 2012. They raised four children together and hosted many memorable and happy gatherings over the years, especially the 4th of July with Fireworks.
Lavinia loved to cook and was an excellent cook. Her home was filled with love and laughter. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was a wonderful wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt. She collected antiques and loved to buy presents for everyone. She made everyone feel welcome around her with her beautiful smile and warmth. She worked as a nurse at the Garrison Memorial Hospital and the Benedictine Living Center for over 40 years. Known as "Haffy" by many people, a nickname she got in nurses' training.

Lavinia is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Wayne, and their 3 children, Letti (Mike) Zenner, of Northfield, MN, Bion (Jerry) Hopkins of Las Vegas, NV, and Owen (Alicia) Hopkins of St. Paul, MN. She has 6 grandchildren, Michael Kinkle, Ashley Zenner, Daniel (Sara) Zenner, Megan Wammack, Tyler Hopkins and Tanner Hopkins. She is survived by her siblings: Sylvester Haffner of Esmond, Albion (Theresia) Haffner of Devils Lake, Lee (Jeanette) Haffner of Minot, Serenus (Janet) Hoffner of Bismarck, and Carlotta (Jim) Goldade of Minot.

Lavinia was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Lu Anna (Rick) Wammack of Los Angeles, CA. and her 3 sisters Valeria Haffner, Isabelle (John) Ripplinger, Alice Kirkpatrick and her brother Llwellyn (Arlene) Hoffner.
