Obituary

Leland (Harold) Grosz, 77, Garrison passed away on December 26, 2013, at Garrison Memorial Hospital, where he has resided since 2011, from complications suffered of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 1 to 6 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison. Family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm at Thompson Funeral Home.

Leland was born on June 30, 1936, to Alfred and Hilda (Schell) Grosz in McLean County. He was raised in rural Turtle Lake and attended country school until the 8th grade when his father passed away unexpectedly at the age of 42 and Leland took over the family farm 11 miles north of Turtle Lake.

Leland married Juanita Engel on October 12, 1956. Leland and Juanita farmed in Turtle Lake until 1968, when they relocated to Garrison due to Leland's leg and related health problems.

While in Garrison Leland started a small engine repair shop, working on snowmobiles and lawn mowers out of his home and hauling tractors. In 1975 Leland started building his legacy, Grosz Wrecking, which grew to 50 acres of "merchandise" inventoried in his head until the very end. His passion was building this business. He was a member of the Makoti Threshers Association and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Leland was an extremely hard worker and social person. He often surprised people with his quick wit, sense of humor and boisterous laugh. In November 1980, Leland lost his leg to bone cancer, but never let that slow him down or define who he was. Despite his many health problems, he never complained and always said, "It will get better."

Leland is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita; three children, Janell (Willie) Ziemann of Washburn; Brenda (Alton) Krebsbach of Washburn; and Melanie (Justin) Young of Billings, Montana; four grandchildren: Jason (Tyson) Ziemann, Nick (Gail) Krebsbach, Jenny (Steve) Peppel and Holly (Dominic) Tognarelli and seven great grandchildren. Leland is also survived by his brothers Gary (Bony) Grosz and Al (Laura) Grosz and sisters Luella (Frank) Philbrick and Alvina (Wilbert) Fueller and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Mark Grosz and his parents, Alfred Grosz and Hilda Bucholz.

Leland gave his family their last Christmas gift from him this year, the gift of his family being together to surround him in his final days. His passing leaves a hole in the lives of so many family and friends, both far and near. His family will most remember the following statements:

"How many people got killed in that wreck?"
"Let's do something, even if it's wrong."
"I can get more done by accident than most people get done on purpose."
