Leona (Lee) Wetsch George passed away Thursday, April 20th, 2017 at Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, ND after a short hard fought battle related to a stroke/heart failure condition. A celebration of her life will be Tuesday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict, ND.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24th, 2017 from 3 to 6 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict.

Leona was born on September 23, 1932 in St. Anthony, ND to Anton and Magdalina (Hatzenbuhler) Wetsch. After six boys, Leona was the first girl followed by 4 more siblings. She was raised and educated in St. Anthony until moving to Mandan. In 1953, she married Gunnar Unger. They had two children, Doug and Cindy. She also helped raise her three stepchildren. Later, she moved to Benedict and worked at the Velva Nursing Home until she retired. There she met Kenny Gullickson and together they had many memorable years until his death.

Leona will be remembered for her humble, sweet, happy spirit; and her excellent baking and cooking skills. She kept herself busy after retirement helping out in her community of Benedict, always eager to assist others. At Christmas time, she made dozens and dozens of lefsa to satisfy the request of the Benedict community and beyond.

Leona will be deeply missed by her children, Doug (Karen) and Cindy (Bob), her grandsons: Nathan (Esther), Alex, Jordan, Isaac, Aaron (Krista), Ben and great granddaughter Freya. She also leaves behind Kenny's children, Tom (Debbie), Cory, Dawn, Penni, and Nancy. Surviving siblings include brother Val (Darlene) Wetsch, sisters, Angela (Frank) Boehm and Loretta (David) Erhardt; sister-in-laws Leona Wetsch, Carol Wetsch, and Rochelle Wetsch; and many nieces and nephews.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tony (Betty) Wetsch, John (Genny) Wetsch, George (Margaret) Wetsch, Mike (Rose) Wetsch, Jack Wetsch, Ray Wetsch, and Edward Wetsch.

The joy of Leona's / Mom's life came from time with her family, friends, and the Benedict community --- we love you and miss you every day. Rest in eternal comfort and peace.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Concordia Lutheran Church in Benedict, ND.
