Obituary

Louise (Weigum) Friese, 90, Garrison, died on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Louise was born September 7, 1927 to Steven and Catherine (Traxel) Stern at her family's farm 12 miles north of Golden Valley, ND. She was raised on her family's farm and was educated in nearby country schools. She attended high school in Golden Valley, graduating in 1943. She continued her education at Dickinson State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She then went on to receive her Master's Degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. In between her schooling, Louise married Delton Weigum in 1946. They had one son, Jerome. Delton passed away in 1972, shortly after moving to Garrison. Louise married Gerald Friese on October 24, 1975 and they made their home in Garrison.
Louise had a lifelong career in teaching. She taught in various country schools in the Beulah, Hazen, Dodge, and Pick City area. Upon moving to Garrison, she taught at Bob Callies Elementary School, where she eventually retired from teaching. Even in retirement, she spent many, many days as a substitute teacher in Garrison.
Louise enjoyed playing cards, quilting, gardening, and cooking and baking. She also loved to visit with friends and neighbors.
Louise is survived by her husband, Gerald Friese, Bismarck; son Jerome (Fran) Weigum, Bismarck; granddaughters, Jessica Weigum (Chris Locken), and Amber (Mitch) Lennick, step daughters, Val Jungling, Lynette Walters, Peggy Walsc, step daughter-in-law, Patty Friese; sisters, Ruby (Gerry) Bauer, Hertha Sunday, Bea Weigum; sister-in-law, Shirley Stern, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Delton Weigum, brothers, Ray Stern, Gottlieb Stern, Erhard Stern, sisters, Erna Avery, Pat Schaff, Anne Chase, and a step son, Richard Friese.
