Obituary

Mae Brickner, 92, Douglas, ND passed away very early on May 29, 2020 with her son by her side at Garrison Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3 rd , 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison.  Burial will be at the Garrison Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison, ND.

Mae Jennet Todd was born on May 19, 1928 to George and Mary (Ellingson) Todd in Ward County, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Douglas. She attended grade school at a nearby township country school and then went to Douglas High School where she graduated in 1945. She worked in Minot for a short time and also in Seattle, WA briefly before coming back to Douglas where her and her sister ran the café for a short time. She also did housework and cooking for farms in the Douglas area.

In June of 1957 she married Rudy Brickner at Trinity Church in Douglas. They made their home on the Brickner farm south of Douglas where they farmed and raised their son Alan. They attended the nearby McGinnis Country Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

After Rudy passed away in 2012, Mae continued to live on the farm with Alan until November of 2019 when she was admitted to the Garrison hospital for hip surgery rehab. In January of 2020, she became a resident of the 3 rd floor nursing care facility where she received excellent care.

Mae was dedicated to her family as a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. She sewed clothes for herself and others and made special occasion dresses for family and friends. She also liked inviting friends and family over for big holiday meals and card playing. She liked doing crafts and has made many pieces of handiwork that have filled her house and that she has given to others.

She is survived by her son, Alan, niece, Betty Lou (Lawrence) Frye of Tacoma WA, nephew, Ron (Jan) Westby of Portland, OR, nephew, Robert (Becky) Westby of Seattle, WA, nephew, Greg (Jill) Schuer of Moorhead, MN, niece, Shirley (Karlsbroten) Schliemann of Minot and nephew, Jim (Brenda) Schuer of Douglas, nephew-in-law, John (Helen) Arvidson of Valparaso, IN, niece-in-law, Marilyn Arvidson of Chesterton, IN, niece-in-law, JoAnn (Curt) Johnson of St. Louis Park, MN, and niece-in-law Joetta (Alvin) Magandy of Douglas, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, her parents, sister, Ruby (James) Lawrance, sister, Amy (Melvin) Westby, brother, Howard (Mary Ellen) Todd, sister Francis (Andrew) Karlsbroten and sister, Betty (Art) Schuer, and niece, Beverly (Karlsbroten) Smestad.
