Marcella Spotted Horse, 79, Harvey, formerly of White Shield, died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at a Harvey nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at the Ralph Wells Jr. Memorial Complex in White Shield. Wake services will be held on Sunday beginning at 5:00 pm at the complex. Burial will be held at Nishu Cemetery in rural White Shield.
Marcella was born October 4, 1933 in Elbowoods, ND to Philip Spotted Horse Sr. and Mamie (White) Spotted Horse. She was raised and educated in Nishu. She later moved to White Shield, where she lived for several years before moving to Garrison. After leaving Garrison, Marcella moved to Underwood, where she was her mother's caretaker for nearly 20 years. She also worked at the Underwood Motel diner.
Following the death of her mother, she moved back to Garrison for a short time, before moving to Minot, where she lived for a number of years before her health forced her to move to the nursing home.
Marcella will always be remembered for her incredible sense of humor and longing to have fun. She loved to listen to all kinds of music, including gospel, country, rock and traditional Arikara. When the music moved her, she would use her walker as a partner and move her little legs as fast as they could go. Her favorite thing to do was travel. She had a true spirit for adventure and would travel to anywhere and everywhere whether she had a ride or not. If she didn't have a ride she could always find one.
Marcella is survived by her daughter, Wilma Lockwood, a child of her heart, Brenda Seibel, both of Max; one sister, Pearl Reed, New Town; very special family members of the Eugene White Jr. Family, White Shield; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marlene Mahto and Emerald Spotted Horse, and brothers, Philip Spotted Horse Jr. and Wilson Spotted Horse.
