Margaret, the daughter of William Newton and Hilda (Magnuson)McGuire, was born in Carpio, ND on May 21, 1913. The family moved to their farm in the Makoti area a few years later. Margaret fondly remembered the skating and card parties her family had with their neighbors, riding the horse-drawn school bus to the Montrail School, a two room school house, and attending the Wabek Lutheran Church, which her father helped build. In 1933, Margaret graduated from Makoti High School where she ran track, played on the girl's basketball team, and sang in the Glee Club. She credited 4H for her talented sewing skills.
Margaret moved to Chicago in 1937 with her brothers Howard and Ray and her Uncle Herman to find a job since times were trying in ND. She addressed envelopes for Fish Furniture until she attended Seland Beauty School in 1939. After earning her Beautician's certificate, she found work in a salon within walking distance of her home where she met Marcella O'Brien who introduced Margaret to her younger brother Bill.
In 1945, Margaret married William J. Seiler in Hopkinsville, Kentucky where he was stationed in the army. They bought a home in LaGrange Highlands, a suburb of Chicago, in 1948 where they raised their three daughters, Shirley, Beth, and Wendy. Over the years, while the girls attended school, Margaret worked at ¬¬¬-Holland's Bakery, Ideal Elementary School, and Breen's Cleaners. In 1968, she became a seamstress for the Harmony Shop and was promoted to manager until her retirement in 1973.
Margaret was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader for the West Cook Girl Scout Council for 20 years. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Robert E. Coulter, Jr. American Legion Post 1941 for 57 years. She was an active member of the Lyonsville Congregational United Church of Christ until she moved back to ND in 2003 and joined the Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Bismarck.
Margaret loved spending time with her family, reading her Bible and other books, sewing, knitting afghans for family and friends, and playing cards with her neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers (Howard, Raymond, Donald, and Earl). She is survived by her daughters: Shirley Duffy (D.J.) of Sun Lakes, AZ, Beth Melaas (Bill) of Garrison, ND and Wendy Elam (Mike) of Grovertown, IN, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
