Marilyn
Engel
May 14, 1939 – May 27, 2019
Marilyn Jean Reimann was born to Frederick and Ida(Arlt) Reimann on May 14th, 1939 in Garrison ND. She attended Garrison High School and graduated in 1957. Marilyn spent 63+ years with James Howard Engel the love of her life and they had two children, Nancy and James Jr.
She spent thirty plus years working at Garrison State Bank Agency holding positions as a general secretary, an agent in the insurance department and managing several rental properties for the principals in the bank. She later became involved with the Bank's travel agency and in charge of coordinating the activities of the Good Neighbor Club. She accompanied this group on numerous adventures including an Alaska trip.
Marilyn and Jim enjoyed travelling together, seeing the various sights, visiting their grandchildren, and while doing so, succeeded in visiting all 50 of the United States. Their travels also included spending many months and numerous trips visiting their son Jim Jr. in Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras and their daughter Nan in Baja California, Mexico.
Marilyn absolutely loved anything creative. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, embroidery, crafting, baking, making jewelry for her family and friends and gardening. Every year she would can, pickle and freeze the bounty from her garden. She also had her own little orchard that gave her many hours of pleasure, watching the trees bloom, grow and produce wonderful fruits. Flower gardens were another passion, roses and orchids especially. Marilyn also liked to collect things, crystal, rare table place settings, painted plates and owls to name a few.
Her family included her husband Jim Engel Sr., daughter Nan(Mac) Davis of Baja California, Mexico, son Jim Jr.(Kisty) Bay Islands Honduras, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren: Dayton(Bobbie) Vetterman and their son Alex of Texas, Clayton Vetterman of Garrison and his daughter Promyse, Duston(Jamie) Vetterman of Washington and their children Jackson, Clayton and William, Tara(Kelly) Cooper of Garrison and their children Austin, Chasen and Bailey, Shawn Engel of Utila Bay Islands, Honduras, Rebecca Engel of Utila Bay Islands, Honduras and her son Aaron, and a special granddaughter Marta Dees of Oxford, Mississippi. Marilyn is also survived by two sisters Ione Metz of Minot and Sharon(Arnold) Briggs of Garrison.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Ida and Frederick), two brothers (Richard and Bernald), her only son (Jim Jr) and eldest grandson Dayton Vetterman.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by her loved ones, co-workers and many clients she loved and enjoyed throughout her 80 years.
Arrangements were handled by Thompson Funeral Home. A memorial service to be held at a later date.
