Marjorie Gwendolyn Snippen was born August 20, 1909 to Leo and Bertina (Oien) Snippen in Cyrus, MN. As a little girl she came with her family to the Roseglen area where they set up their family homestead. Marjorie was the oldest of 4 children and attended country school. As a young lady she had the opportunity to work as a pastry cook in Detroit Lakes, MN and Seattle, WA.
Marjorie returned to the Roseglen area and on October 18, 1939 she was united in marriage to Adolph Kolden. They purchased a farm from Adolph's uncle. Their home would later become known as the "Kolden" farm, where they raised their 2 children, Darlene and David.
Over the years, Marjorie was very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church including teaching Sunday school, helping with fall suppers, quilting, and providing the altar with many beautiful flowers, which she grew herself. There was always a huge garden on the Kolden farm, as well as numerous fruit shrubs and trees. Canning was a fall ritual along with the making of homemade wine. Marjorie's cooking skills were one of her greatest talents, known by many, and many recipes were shared with her family. Her kitchen produced countless wedding cakes, along with fresh breads and seasonal favorites, especially lefse. Sewing and crocheting were also favorite hobbies.
Marjorie lived a very long and blessed life. Many years of memories have been left behind to be cherished by her grandkids, great grandkids, great great grandkids, family and friends. May God bless the memory of Marjorie Kolden.
