Marlene Farrell, Bismarck, formerly of Garrison, died on Thursday, January 3 at a Bismarck hospital. Memorial services will be held on Monday at 9:00 am at THompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Marlene Joyce Farrell was born March 1, 1935 to William and Jennie Schlichting in Garrison, ND.
She attended grammar school and high school in Garrison. She was a majorette with the band, was Dairy Queen and worked at Andersgord Department Store.
She attended St. Johns Lutheran College in Kansas, then she moved to Minneapolis and then moved on to Seattle where she worked as a legal secretary and was Seafare Princess at the Seattle Boat Show.
Then she was encouraged by her mentor to become a flight attendant and see the world. She got a job with American Airlines and lived in New York and Chicago. She had many great adventures as a flight attendant, including a trip around the world. She then moved to Los Angeles, got married and started a family. Michelle was the first of her three daughters. They then moved to Northern California where Paula and Maureen were born.
In the early 1990's she moved back to Garrison to help care for her ailing mother Jennie and stayed in Garrison after her mom passed.
She worked for many years at BHG. She was very interested in politics and finance and discussed both frequently with friends and family.
She is survived by he daughters Michelle Farrell, Maureen Farrell, Paula (Eric) Almquist and granddaughter Caroline; siblings Jim (Ruby) Schlichting, Betty (Walt) Bustruck, Harley (Deedee) Schlichting, Lois (Fred) Masden and numerous nieces and nephews.
