Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Marlene Joyce (Gehring) Mautz ("Cookie", "Big Grandma"), loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister. Marlene entered eternal life on March 02, 2020 at the age of 82.
Marlene was born August 06, 1937 in Garrison ND to Ludwig Christian Gehring and Freda Marie (Robbins) Gehring. She was raised in Garrison and attended school in Garrison and Seattle WA. Marlene graduated from Garrison High School in 1955.
Marlene married Mylo Charles Mautz on September 06, 1956. Marlene and Mylo made their home on the Mautz family farm east of Garrison. She worked beside Mylo, on all the farming and ranching duties. While helping Mylo with the farm, they also raised 4 children. Marlene and Mylo remained on the farm until their retirement in 1998, when they moved to Garrison.
Marlene remained a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church family, active in ELCA/WELCA, and other women's groups until her health prevented her from attending regularly. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, journaling and creating collages to chronical her grandchildren's' early years. She was a member of the Garrison Bowling League for several years, enjoying time with old and new friends.
Marlene loved her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Each one of them having a special place in her heart. Marlene will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 64 years, Mylo; daughters, Claudia (Tim) Elser, West Fargo ND, Pamela (Tim) Narum, Lake Elmo MN, Mandy (Craig) Schaaf, Bismarck; son, David (Jodi) Mautz, Garrison; Grandchildren, Travis (Tiffany) Elser, Tyler Elser, Alana Narum, Alexander Narum, Riley Mautz, Gavin Mautz; great grandchildren Madison Elser, Charlee Elser, Tanner Elser; sister, Donna Mae Dushek; brother, Donald (Arlene) Gehring, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law, Brother-in-law Bill Crossland, Brother-in-law Ray Duschek.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison on Saturday, March 07 at 2:00 p.m.
Interment to follow services.
