Obituary

Mary Lee Erickson, 82, Garrison, died on Monday, June 10, 2013 at her home. Memorial services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.

Mary Lee was born May 15, 1931 in Bismarck, ND to Clarence and Amy (Pentz) Ricketts. She was raised on a farm in rural Douglas and attended rural school. She graduated from Garrison High School in 1949. Following high school she went to work for the ASCS office in Garrison, where she quickly became the manager and later the general manager. Mary Lee was once married to James Highbe and they had two children, Dave and Cindy.

When her children were older, Mary Lee worked for Kirchen Insurance and also worked and managed the American Legion club for many years. On August 15, 1980, Mary Lee married Donald Erickson at her parents house in rural Garrison. Mary Lee lived her whole life in Garrison and moved into the McLean Manor in February of 2012.

Mary Lee was very active in the First Congregational Church in Garrison, participating in the Ladies Aid, Eastern Star, and helping with all the Dickens Events happening at the church. She was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Mary Lee also loved cats. Her home was a gathering place for many of the lost cats in Garrison. They received lots of attention and always received something to eat.

Mary Lee is survived by her son, Dave (Michele) Highbe, Alamo, NV; daughter, Cindy (Bryan) Reed, Sun River, OR; grandchildren, Culen Highbe, Alamo, NV, Sarah (Daniel) Schommer, and Nicole Smith (fiance Chris Garcia), all of Minot, ND; both of Minot, ND, stepdaughter, Dawn Erickson, Burlington, ND; step grandchildren, Dillon Erickson, Katie LaDeaux, both of Minot, ND, and Hannah Thorson, Burlington, ND; nieces, Susan (Ted) Huffman, Rapid City, SD, Peggy (Dan) Lynn, Red Lodge, MT, and Carol (Alan) Rodrick, Hood River, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Keith Ricketts.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
