Obituary

Melvin Gray, 75, Max, died on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at the Garrison Memorial Hospital.  Private family services will be held.

Melvin Emery Gray was born in Denver Colorado on June 13, 1944 to parents Dick Richard and Leone(Ibis) Gray. He grew up in Huron, SD, where he attended school. Mel married the love of his life, Carol, on November 18th, 1967. They lived in Huron where he worked for Northwest Pipe Fittings. While living there, their first two children, Char and Dick, were born. Mel and Carol moved to Garrison, ND in 1977 where their third and fourth children, April and Bridjette were born.
Mel and Carol later moved to Max, ND in 1998, where they made a new life on their farm. Mel took pride in taking care of the farm, lawn and garden. He enjoyed sitting on the deck spending time with his wife, kids and grandkids.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and he was an avid outdoorsman. Mel loved going fishing with his son and his mother. His daughters recall that the one time they were invited along, they scared all the fish, and were never invited with again. He could shoot a mean game of horse with his grandson Zach. He enjoyed going to live wrestling and watching televised events. He was known to be a referee to many at-home family matches between the kids while Carol was away. On Sundays, the family often gathered around the television to watch Westerns all day long. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage.
Mel was tall man and had a booming voice that filled up any room he was in. His laughter was contagious, his humor was dry, and that sense of humor was passed along to his kids, and consequently, their kids.
He is loved and remembered by his wife of 52 years, Carol (Jerome) Gray ; his Daughter, Charlene (Craig) Hopfauf - Bismarck, ND; his son, Dick and wife Michelle Gray - Max, ND; his Daughter April and husband Jeff Daeley - Max, ND; his Daughter, Bridjette Gray and fiancé Ryan - Benedict, ND. He is also remembered by his 11 grandchildren: Zachary Gray, Brandon Kidwell, Nicholas Brunsell, Amber Kidwell, Christopher Brunsell, Jordan Kidwell, Lexy Kidwell, Taylor Gray, BrookLynn Marchand, Miranda Hopfauf, Chesney Gray, Ace Gray, and his two great grandchildren, Daizee and Amarrah.
Mel's passing was preceded by his father and mother, Dick and Leone Gray, his two sisters Norrine Gray and Bev Owens.
