Obituary

Myrtle Painte Goodleft, 80, White Shield, died Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 in a Bismarck hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the White Shield School. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at the White Shield School.

Myrtle Faye Painte-Goodleft
Myrtle Painte-Goodleft aka "Tadlen" or "Buckskin" was born on January 29, 1937 in Nishu, ND to parents Ruth Painte, White Shield, ND & Charlie Snow, Newtown, ND. She was raised by her Step Father Pete Taylor. Myrtle was a Child of a Water Buster & member of the Arikara Dead Grass Society. At one-time Myrtle was a member of Joseph Young Hawk/Elmer Bear Post 253 Ladies Auxiliary in the 80's & 90's. Myrtle Painte met George Goodleft, Sr. at a revival meeting in 1969 and married and had an instant family. Ila Painte, Sherman Painte, Doug Painte, Sr., David Painte, Rebecca Kelly, Donald Painte, Sr., Debbie Painte, Waylon Goodleft, George Goodleft, Jr., Jason Goodleft and Marvine Goodleft. Myrtle has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Myrtle Goodleft aka "Tadlen-Buckskin" wanted to acknowledge she has one living sister Arlene Gullickson, Lake Andes, SD.

Burial: Arikara Congregational Church, White Shield ND.

Education/Work: Myrtle attended Elementary in Marty, SD. She received her GED from McLaughlin, SD, Chemical Addiction training from the University of North Dakota. Myrtle worked at the Parshall Resource Center in the 1980's as a Residential Supervisor, Fort Yates Boys Ranch, Fort Yates Nutritional program. During the Relocation period, Myrtle moved to Chicago, Illinois and work as a CNA for Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Bromenn Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Myrtle also worked for Montgomery Ward, Chicago, Illinois. In the late 1970's Myrtle was employed at Peace Pipe Indian Center in Bismarck, ND for the Native American Population. Her love for Jesus Christ and gospel music was her biggest passion. She played bass, piano and rocked the guitar during revival services where she earned the name "Rock N Roll Grandma". She loved horses and grew up riding horses with her big sister Arlene and her many cousins in Nishu, White Shield Area.

Myrtle was a member of the White Shield A.A fellowship and was a female sponsor for women around the area. She prayed and reached out for those addicted to alcohol & drugs. She wanted people to know there is a better and sober way in Jesus Christ. Myrtle Loved the Arikara/White Shield Children and formed the grassroots organization called Arikara Helping Hands whose main purpose was to help children previous of the Bakken oil boom. She didn't like to see children go without gifts during the Christmas season and with the help of the Mclean County Sheriff's department her dream was accomplished every year. Myrtle/George Goodleft, Sr. carried out Prison Ministry in the state of Washington & North Dakota State penitentiary.

She wanted to acknowledge all past and present Tribal Chairman/Councilmen: Chairman Mark Fox, Tex Hall, Marcus Levings, Frank White Calfe, Councilman Fred Fox and Randy (Jessica) Phelan, Tope Painte. Thank you for always helping Mom. Her prayers are with our Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish Tribal Government Elected Leadership.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her Husband George Goodleft, Sr., Son Sherman Painte, Twin Painte Boys, Mother Ruth Painte, Father Charlie Snow, Sr., Pete Taylor, Sisters Cynthia Star, Rosie Snow, Sharon Snow, Rita Snow, and Isabelle Snow. Grandson Dustin Sea Walker, Grandpa Robert Painte, Grandmother Nora Yellowbird-Painte, Davis Painte, Marvin Painte, Lucille Painte, Mary Jane Painte, Owen Painte, Brothers Rusty White Arm, Dennis Snow, Sam Snow, and Grassrope Angels.

Myrtle is survived by Daughters: Ila (Byron)Painte, Debbie Painte, Rebecca Kelly and Marvine Goodleft.
Sons: Donald (Nancy) Painte, Sr., Douglas (Ardith) Painte, Sr., George (Winona) Goodleft, Jr., Jason Goodleft and Waylon Goodleft.
Grandchildren: Roselynn Painte, Donald Painte, Jr., Keisha Painte, Robert Painte, Jeana Grassrope, Amanda Grassrope, Pamela Grassrope, Cassandra Painte, David Painte, Douglas Painte, Jr., Nichole Painte, Heavens Grace Goodleft, Sharee Goodleft, Sheldon Kelly, Tommy Kelly, Teddy Kelly, Brandon Two Bears and Triston Two Shields.
Great Grandchildren: Evan Grassrope, Jayla Grassrope, Baby Grassrope, Vance Littlebird, Wade Littlebird, Desean Finley, Anna Dickens, Jayelle Painte and Javian Painte.
