Paul Osadchy, 98, Max, died on Friday, August 24, 2012 at a Garrison hospital. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic in Max. A rosary will be said on Monday at 5:30 at the church. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Minot.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the rosary at the church.

Paul Anton Osadchy was born May 20, 1914 in rural Max, ND to Nazar and Mary (Poul) Osadchy. He was raised and educated in rural Max schools. He served in the US Armed Forces during World War II from 1941 through 1945. Most of his service time was spent in the Pacific Islands, principally in New Guinea and Luzon. Paul was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart for meritorious service. He was honorable discharged at the end of the war and returned to North Dakota.

Paul married Laura Dietzler in 1956. Together they farmed in Ward County until her death in 1994. He continued his farm operation until entering a nursing home in 2011. Paul and Laura enjoyed traveling and made trips to Europe, Israel, Hawaii, and Canada. Besides trips to Wisconsin, they visited in Florida and California.

Paul was privileged to take part in the World War II Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in September 2009. He toured the three national monuments – the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, and the Viet Nam War Memorial. He also toured the World War II Memorial, the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and the U.S. Capitol grounds.

Paul is survived by three sisters, Frances Scraggs, Audrey Rydberg, and Barbara Osadchy, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Nazar Osadchy; his wife, Laura; five brothers, Joseph, Vincent, Andrew, Arnold, and Amil; four sisters, Anneale Schwalbe, Lucille Kalamaha, Florence Melchior, and Margaret Baugh.
