Obituary

Paula Mae Schreiner, 54, Max, died peacefully at her home after a long courageous struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), on November 7, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Paula's life will be held at St. Nicholas Church in Garrison, North Dakota on Saturday, November 12th, 2011 at 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery. Rosary will be held at St. Nicholas Church on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 10th, 2011 from 3pm to 7 pm and Friday, November 11th, 2011 from 9am to 6pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.


Paula was born in Garrison, North Dakota on September 5, 1957 to Paul ("Tony") and Valois (Fitzgerald) Matthews. She was the fourth child of eight brothers and sisters. She was raised in Garrison and graduated from Garrison High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Schreiner, on September 18, 1976 and they were blessed with three children.

She lived her entire life in the Garrison/Max area and was very active in both communities. Paula was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society of St. Nicholas Church and worked at the Garrison Hospital until her retirement in September 2011.

Paula had a gentle and gracious heart, which was displayed in her devotion to her family and friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren, and friends. Paula will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Paula's memory include: husband, Glenn; children, Jenn (John) Dingmann of Plymouth, Minnesota, Angie (Jay) Roles of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Nick of Minot; grandchildren, Tatum Roles, Ty and Molly Dingmann; father and mother-in-law, Cletus and Gertie Schreiner, Garrison; sisters, Viva (Andy) Simmons, Republic, Missouri and Lisa (Daryl) Kleyer, Williston; brothers, John (Marlinda) Matthews, Garrison, Brad Matthews, Garrison, Ron (LaVonne) Matthews, Fargo, Todd Matthews and his fiancée, Jennifer Barkie-Brown, Williston; brother-in-law, Bruce (Sue) Schreiner, Garrison; sisters-in-law, Becky (Charly) Kerzman, Wheatland, Wyoming, Lori (Darryl) Sayler, Garrison, and Jodi (Brian) Bendickson, Garrison; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Valois Matthews; brother, Terry Fitzgerald; her grandparents; uncle and aunt, George and Rose Fitzgerald; and nephew, Jeremy Rustad.
