Ramona Hanson, 82, Garrison, formerly of Ryder, died on Friday, April 13, 2012, at a Garrison nursing facility.
Ramona Juliann Schmidt Hanson was born Feb. 20, 1930, to Walter and Dorothy (Olsen) Schmidt, of Max. She was raised and attended school in Max, graduating from Max High School in 1948. She then attended Trinity School of Nursing in Minot and received her nursing degree. She completed a nursing residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and then returned to North Dakota and was employed at Trinity Hospital in Minot and later Garrison Memorial Hospital. In 1951, Ramona married Phillip Hanson, of Ryder, where they made home, farming and raising their family.
Ramona suffered a severe stroke in 1978, which left the right side of her body and her speech greatly affected. In spite of all this, she continued to make a home for her family at Ryder until her husband died in 1993. She then moved to Garrison, where she had many friends at both the McLean Manor and later the Garrison Memorial Hospital Nursing Facility.
Ramona is survived by one brother, Robert Schmidt; sons, Tom, Gary and Michael Hanson; grandchildren, Nikki, Aaron, James and Matt Hanson; sister-in-law, Grace Schmidt; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wendell and Marlys Hanson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, David Schmidt; and daughter, Kathy.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Johnás Lutheran Church in Ryder.
Burial will be Monday at 5 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot.
Visitation will be held today, Sunday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
