IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard
Bold
March 27, 1937 – May 3, 2020
Our dear brother, Richard Bold, 83, Bismarck, formerly of Garrison, passed to his eternal rest peacefully on May 3 rd , 2020 at his 2004 27 th Street Home in Monday. He was surrounded by his HIT family of caregivers and ushered to Heaven by his assigned angels.
Richard was born on the Bold Homestead southeast of Garrison on March 27 th , 1937. He was the 3 rd of 7 children born to Howard and Lillian Bold. At the age of six, he moved to the Grafton State School. In 1985, he moved to the wonderful HIT facility in Bismarck and Mandan at which time his sister Arlene became his legal guardian.
Richard was autistic and never had the gift of language, but communicated through the gestures of pointing, handshakes, warm, shy smiles, and sounds letting staff and family know if he was pleased or displeased. Richard loved music and would clap and holler while music played. He loved machinery and cars probably a result of early farm life. He went shopping with staff and enjoyed unpacking the groceries. In his earlier years, he traveled with the HIT staff to Medora, Valley Fair, as well as to area car shows, but he was extremely uncomfortable being away from his home. He enjoyed walks and animals especially the Golden Retriever that visited his home often. Staff took him out for coffee and ice cream along with taking him to church as well, always trying new things to see what Richard would enjoy and tolerate.
On Richard's 80 th birthday, a special party was arranged at a Pizza Ranch in Mandan attended by our family members including our granddaughter's basketball team. We are so grateful for one of his staff house managers, Sarah, for using her day off to bring Richard to his party. We all enjoyed that memory of Richard showing his happiness with his expressive eyes and giving genuine smiles to all the young ladies present.
Our family is eternally grateful to Terry Hulm of HIT Inc. for 35 years of loving care for Richard always proactive and professional in seeing that his needs were met as changes occurred so that he was always comfortable and supported. Many times, Terry would call from the ER, there with Richard for various issues being assessed and treated. We are also thankful for his current nurse, Kim who was so kind and compassionate to keep us informed as Richard's health deteriorated in the last few years. We'd like to express a heartfelt thanks to all HIT staff as well as the hospice staff for their compassionate care. May you always know what a blessing you were to him.
Richard is survived by his two brothers, Jerry and Steuert, both of Washington, his sister Arlene of Garrison, 2 cousins, Marlene and Kathy who remembered and loved Richard, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, special Aunt Hazel and Uncle Hubert, brothers, Harvey and Charlie, and sister, Donna.
Richard was cremated and his ashes will be scattered as close to the family farm as possible.
Thank you, dear Richard, for being the gift of love to our families. Through your beautiful personality, you have made us all better human beings. Until we meet again! Rest in peace!
