Robert "Bob" Berg was born August 21, 1928 to Peter and Frances (Friese) Berg on the family farm in rural Max, ND. He attended country school and Max High School, where he met Adeline Schmidt, his future wife. Bob and Adeline married and raised 8 children, five boys and 3 girls. Their son, Harlen, was taken to heaven at the tender age of 8. The family lived in Max for several years before moving to their farm near Max.

Bob spent several years as a coal truck driver and as a mechanic at Huettl Brothers Garage in Max. He also helped on the family farm until 1964, when he began farming on his own. Farming was Bob's greatest passion. One of his special gifts was his ability to fix anything, which came in especially handy on the farm.
Bob had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing tricks on his family, especially the grandchildren. During his last few years, Bob has lived at The Meadows and Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, and had become known as the man with the "little red wagon". He enjoyed giving rides to his great grandchildren and occasionally some of his neighboring residents.

Bob was a very faith-filled father and intensely devoted husband. His love for Adeline had always been present and was never more apparent than during the last months of her life. The care and commitment shown during these difficult times was a true testament to the man that he was.

Bob is survived by his children, Orrin (Karen) Berg, Darlene (Thomas) Holverson, Dale Berg, Jeralynne (Terry) Wiege, Richard (Linda) Berg, Mitch Berg, and Tami (Steve) Hauf; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth and James Berg; sisters, Lucille Miller and Eleanor Wenger, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline, son, Harlan, grandson, Matthew Berg, granddaughter, Monica Hauf, brothers, Gilbert and Clifford Berg, and sisters, Marie Rodriguez and Lois Trihub.

The family prefers memorials to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
