Ronald Gieser, 78, Garrison, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at his home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison.
Ron was born August 6, 1939 in Minot, ND to Maximilian and Evelyn (Lien) Gieser. He was raised and educated in Minot and the surrounding area. He enlisted in the US Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959. He also served in the Army National Guard for many years.
Ron married Ellen "Lyn" Schrempf on October 16, 1963 in Minot, ND. Following their marriage, Ron worked as a civil engineer at the Minot Air Force Base. After 25 years at the base, Ron retired and they moved to Denver, CO to be closer to their children. While living in Denver, Ron and Lyn spent a lot of time providing security for the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies, as well as other special events. After several years in Denver, they settled in Garrison where Ron stayed busy driving bus for West River Transit and Garrison Public Schools. He earned numerous bus driving awards and was extremely dedicated to the children and elderly that he transported. Lyn died in November of 2006 and Ron continued to live in Garrison.
Ron had many hobbies. He was active in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Action Group, as well as the Garrison Senior Citizens. He truly enjoyed family gatherings, BBQ's, jam sessions, and Lefse making. His favorite part of all these were the stories he was able to tell to anyone that would listen. He also enjoyed traveling, especially with his very special friend Twila Olson. The two of them were rarely apart the last few years and they enjoyed their road trips together. Ron also enjoyed deer hunting, but his true passion was fishing. Earlier in his life he was involved in Lure Em 4 Life and in the summer he was usually found on the water with one or both of his boys, Carey and Jeff. Ron was a subtle and kind man and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
