Obituary

Ronald Hawkins, 69, White Shield, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at his brother's home in Kannapolis, NC. Wake services will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at 5:00 p.m. at the White Shield School. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the White Shield School.

Ronald Barry Hawkins was born October 11, 1946 in Darlington, South Carolina to Doris (Quick) and William B. Hawkins. He enlisted in the USAF in 1966. Ron served a tour in Dong Ha, Vietnam receiving a Bronze Star with valor in 1968.


Thereafter, Ron was stationed at Minot Air Force Base, where he met the love of his life, Ardie (Hosie) Hawkins. Ron and Ardie were married October 11, 1969. Several years later they had 3 children, Joel, Tena & Tiffany.


Ron retired from the USAF in 1986 as a B-52/KC-135 Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent and received a Meritorious Service Medal. After Ron's retirement, he worked in the White Shield School System. He was a teaching assistant, truant officer, as well as a student mentor and tutor. Wherever he was needed, Ron was willing to help the students in any way he could.


Ron's hobbies were fishing, playing bingo, Facebook & collecting sports memorabilia. Ron's favorite college basketball team was the North Carolina Tarheels and his favorite NFL team was the Indianapolis Colts.


Ron retired from the White Shield School and relocated back home to North Carolina in 2009 where he enjoyed his retirement in the warmer weather until the time of his death.


Ron is survived by his son, Joel (Twila) Hawkins of White Shield, ND; his daughters Tena and Tiffany of New Town, ND, his brothers, Glenn (Patty) Hawkins of Wilmington, NC and Danny (Charlotte) Hawkins of Kannapolis, NC, his five grandchildren, Delphine, John, Primberly, Brenden and Arden, his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.


Ron was preceded in death by his wife Ardie, his brother, Randall Hawkins, and his parents, Doris and William B. Hawkins.
