Ruth was born April 27, 1932, on her family's farm in the rural Zap area, the daughter of Emil and Katie (Voegele) Welk. She married Henry Pochant on October 30, 1954, in Riverdale ND. They made their home in the Coleharbor area. Henry died in 2003. Ruth stayed at their home until 2007 when she moved to Bismarck, where she made her home until her death.
Ruth lived a farmer's life for many years raising three boys. She also became the head cook at the Riverdale Public school for many years, where she brought her 'home cooking' to the enjoyment of the kids and school staff. Ruth was a great cook and canner, and family and friends appreciated and loved her cooking. She could put a meal together in no time if company would be around. Ruth and Henry did some traveling during their retirement years, along with golfing, gardening, and visiting with friends and relatives. Her biggest joy though was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her 3 sons and daughter-in-laws, Dwight and Mary Pochant, Rapid City, SD, Clark and Jayne Pochant, Center, ND, and Jeff and Sallie Pochant, Coleharbor, ND; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Norman Winkler, Menoken, ND.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Tobea Welk, and her folks.
