Shirley Jane (Finkbeiner) Jungling was born in her grandmother's house in Max, ND on February 26, 1940 to John and Helen (Herrmann) Finkbeiner. After graduating from Max High school in 1957 she met the love of her life Kenneth Jungling. They were the first couple married in the newly formed Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Max. Shirley was very active in the church teaching Sunday School and Bible School, and was a sponsor for the Luther League. She was also a member for WELCA and the church choir.
Shirley was very active in the Max community volunteering at Max Public School, the Girl Scouts, and the local food pantry. She was also a member of the Max Civic Club, Max Alumni Association, Max Golf Association, and the Max Community Choir. Shirley was a stay at home mom until she began work at Bremer Bank in Max and worked there until her retirement in 2002.
For the past 25 years, Shirley has battled ferociously with cancer. Despite the difficulty of chemotherapy and radiation, she always had a smile on her face. Her smile, positivity and relentless drive for life never allowed cancer to win. Even during treatments, she still made it to as many events as possible, especially her grandchildren's sporting events. She always brought nothing less than strength, and the encouraging smile her family has grown to embrace. Shirley taught everyone around her what it meant to be strong, stay positive, remain selfless, and most importantly, to maintain faith in the Lord.
Left to honor Shirley is the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Kenneth Jungling, Max; two children, Kent (Catalina) Jungling, (ex-wife Connie Hayes), Colleen Johnson (ex-husband Randy Johnson); eight grandchildren, Benjamin Jungling, Misty Jungling (Richard Arroyo), Matthew (Katie) Jungling, Domonique Jungling, Samuel Jungling, Brandi (Brock) Enderson, Brianna Johnson, and Christian Johnson; seven great grandchildren, Destiney Jungling, Alyssa Jungling, Ava Jungling, Rex Jungling, Bailey Arroyo, Brady Jungling, and Mackenzie Arroyo; brother, Jerome (Karen) Finkbeiner; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald (Janice) Jungling; nieces and nephews, Keith Finkbeiner, Noreen Otten, Paul Finkbeiner, Melissa Scheresky, Laurie Jungling, and Mark Jungling; cousins, Iona Fried, Daskam, Virgil Goodpastor, Christine Pietz, Carolyn Merriman, and Nancy Steinhardt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, Martha Finkbeiner and Pearl Finkbeiner; brother, Norman Finkbeiner; sister-in-law, Bonnie Finkbeiner, and Lila Jungling.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Camp of the Cross of Garrison or Cancer Care in Minot.
