Shirley Zook, 74, Garrison, died on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 am at Peace Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 6 pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.

Shirley was born May 18, 1944 in Underwood, ND to Marvin and Ella (Voth) Rime. At the age of 8, Shirley was diagnosed with Polio. It was at this young age that Shirley found strength from within while spending several years in and out of the hospital. It was also at this time that she found a love for Elvis Presley music, which her parents played for her during her stays. Shirley was able to keep up with school, graduating from Garrison High School. After graduation, Shirley worked at Garrison State Bank and Trust in Garrison.

On November 30, 1966, Shirley married Lloyd Zook. They made their home in Garrison and began their family. Shirley quit her job at the bank to raise their 3 children, Kim, Ken, and Kory. Unfortunately, Lloyd died suddenly in 1982 and Shirley was left to raise her 3 children alone. Once again, Shirley's inner strength and faith helped her to raise her children with courage that many may not have been able to do.

Shirley loved to cook and even with three young kids it was more of a joy than a chore. Her family grew up with home cooking and baking and Shirley later enjoyed teaching her grandchildren to cook. In what little spare time she had she enjoyed playing cards and was a perfectionist when it came to quilting and embroidery.

Shirley is survived by her children, Kim Seidler, Coleharbor, Ken Zook, and Kory Zook, both of Garrison; grandchildren, Cassidy, Tyler, and Kaitlyn Zook, all of Garrison; sister, Marlene Iglehart, Garrison, brother, Terry (Shirley) Rime, Bismarck; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Lloyd.
