Spencer Steven Flath, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Garrison, ND on May 29, 2025.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garrison, ND. Burial to follow at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND, with a Family Prayer Service starting at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral service.
Spencer was born on December 29, 1951, in Minot, ND, the oldest son of Herbert and Betty (Mehlhoff) Flath. He was raised in Garrison and later on the family farm just outside of Garrison. He attended Garrison High School and continued his education for one year at Dickinson State University where he studied art and had plans of being an art teacher - of all things!!
On June 16, 1973, Spencer married Pamela (Winn) Flath and they made their home and raised their three children in Garrison, ND.
Spencer was a jack of all trades. Over the years he worked as a carpenter, millwright, welder, auctioneer and woodworker. He also farmed and raised cattle throughout his life and his time spent farming and ranching was some of his favorite. If you have ever heard the phrase "I am sorry for what I said while working cattle" may have been coined from Spence! Time spent visiting with friends and acquaintances was another beloved pastime of Spencer's. However, nothing gave him more enjoyment than following his four grandchildren around to all of their school and sporting events – especially hockey!
Spencer is survived by his wife Pam; sons, Brad (Tami) of Mandan and Brandon of Garrison; daughter, Heather (Mitch) Svangstu of Crosby; grandsons, Ole and Gustav; granddaughters, Svea and Aasta; brothers, Richard and Mark Flath of Coleharbor; sister, Lavonne (Ron) Boucher of Minot; brother and Sister in laws, Jacalyn (Lonnie) Ross, Robin (Milo) Dyke and Tim Winn; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Betty; his mother-in-law, Gladys (Engel) Winn; and nephew Ryan Winn.
