Obituary

Sylvia "Sivy" Peterson, 80, Garrison, died on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Garrison Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Garrison City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 7 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Sylvia was born November 23, 1938 to Lamont and Helen (Lewis) Kurtz south of Garrison in the Kurtz home at Stevens Coal Mine. She was baptized at the First Congregational Church in Garrison. Sylvia was raised on a farm near Emmet, ND and educated in the Roseglen area.
Sylvia married Martin "Junior" Peterson on November 28, 1956. They lived on the Kurtz family farm for numerous years before moving into Garrison. They never had any children, but they truly enjoyed the time spent with their nieces and nephews. Sivy also enjoyed playing cards and being outdoors. Her true love were cats, especially her beloved "Annie".
After the death of her husband Junior, Sylvia took a custodial position with the City of Garrison. Her duties were many and she was very dedicated and took pride in the work she did. She worked very hard up until her retirement. Following her retirement, Sylvia remained at home until declining heath forced her to move to the Garrison Memorial Hospital Nursing Facility in 2017.
Sylvia is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Junior Peterson, 1 brother, LaRoy Kurtz, 6 sisters, Murrill Mertz, Katheleen "Kitty" Peterson, Winnafred Wahl, Leona Ensrude, Lanora Eslinger, and Thelma Davenport.
