Terry Ellison, 77, passed away on March 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison, ND. Rosary will be at 1:00 PM prior to the service.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND.

Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 30, 2026, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Terry was born to Orville & Esther (Hintz) Ellison on December 2, 1948. He grew up and lived most of his life on the family farm by Emmet. He graduated from Garrison High School. He served in the marines as a communication and navigation technician. He was awarded the good conduct medal in 1971. He served from 1968-1972 during Vietnam. He married the love of his life Virgina and together they had five children: Stephanie, Keith, Pamela, Jennifer, and Thomas.

Terry had many jobs farming, ranching, backhoe work and garbage collecting. Terry was very knowledgeable and could fix many things.

There are many stories of him, his brother and his dad flying airplane. Terry had many hobbies. He enjoyed riding horse, many kinds of hunting, fishing, woodworking, reading and snowmobiling, being a member of a snowmobile club and Garrison Sportmen's club teaching hunters education. Terry also sponsored his trap team for a number of years.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Esther Ellison; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Joe Buckley; nephew, Verne Ellison; son-in-law, Lyle Gjovig; his wife of 53 ½ years Virgina, who passed away shortly after him.

He is survived by his children, Stephanie Gjovig, Keith Ellison, Pamela (Jeremy) Kolden, Jennifer (Galen) Grote, Thomas (Jensi) Ellison; siblings, Kelvin (Diane) Ellison, Barb (Richard) Vasicek, Julie (David) Anderson; grandkids, Dylan (Amber) Eckert, Harley (Adam) McDonald, Logan & Brady Eckert, Cayli (Cyrus) Smith, Casyn & Clay Kolden, Emily (David) and Erika Grote, Oakley & Ryker Ellison, Ariel (Kennon) Kirk and Andrew Gjovig; Great-Grandchildren, Sarah, Lucas, Natalie and Riley Eckert, Micah & Esther McDonald, Lakken & Gemma Kirk.
