Tim Nordquist, 64, Garrison, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at a Bismarck hospital after a six month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison. Burial will be at the Parshall Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 11am to 7pm at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Tim was born April 14, 1951 in Minot, ND to Orville and Selma "Sally" (Joern) Nordquist. He was baptized and confirmed at 1st Lutheran Church in Parshall, which is where he first met a four year old Sally Brendle in Sunday School, (more to come on that!). Tim attended school in Parshall, graduating from Parshall High School in 1969. Those classmates of '69 have remained very close and are held dear to Tim's heart. He continued his education at North Dakota State University, graduating in 1974 with a B.S. degree in Vocational Agriculture . On December 17, 1977, Tim married that little sweetheart from Sunday School, Sally Brendle, at the same 1st Lutheran Church in Parshall.
Tim began his career in agriculture working for the Morton County Extension Service and later worked as the Assistant Administrator for the North Dakota Wheat Commission in Bismarck. In 1981 they were blessed with their only child, Cory Nathan. In the summer of 1982, Tim began his career with Farmers Union Elevator, (later CHS Garrison), working mostly in agronomy. Tim retired in 2008 after a very loyal 26 years. Following retirement, Tim worked at Ft. Stevenson State Park, helping mostly with maintenance.
Tim was extremely active in the Garrison community. He was a very dedicated member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and spent numerous hours volunteering at the Garrison Golf Course, where he was recently added to the Wall of Fame. Tim took great pride in being a member of the Garrison Fire Dept. Tim joined the department on February 26, 1985, and was still an active fireman at the time of his death. In 2010 all of his efforts were recognized by receiving the ND Chamber of Commerce Community Leadership Award. When Tim wasn't serving in his civic duties, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved to golf and as a "hobby", spent many hours reloading shells, something he did with tedious precision. Tim was also a huge NDSU Bison fan, flying the Bison flag whenever possible. Tim and Sally were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first grandchild in July. That grandchild will have one heck of an angel watching over he or she all its life.
Tim is survived by his loving wife of over 37 years, Sally, Garrison; son and daughter-in-law, Cory and Tina Nordquist, Garrison; brother, Dennis (Cindy) Nordquist, Minot, ND; sister, Julie Bartelson, Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Diane (Kenny) Rassmuson, Valley City, ND; brother-in-law, Darrel Brendle, Parshall, ND; nieces and nephews, Sandi Piper, Christa Brunsell, Chad Nordquist, Molly Schlagel, Matt Bartelson, Peter Rasmusson, Jodi Pabst; and his 2 very loyal kitties.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Sally Nordquist, mother and father-in-law, Rudolph and Evelyn Brendle, and a nephew, Bruce Nordquist.
