Vera P. Daleness, 72, Lixington, Neb., formerly of White Shield, died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the Ralph Wells Jr. Memorial Complex in White Shield. Burial will be at the Plenty Chief Cemetery in rural White Shield. Wake services will be held on Friday beginning at 5:00 pm at the complex.
Vera was born February 1, 1940 in Elbowoods, ND to Walter and Emma (Cold Hand) Plenty Chief. Vera was a member of the Arikara Sioux Tribe. She attended school in North Dakota and lived there until 1964. She was united in marriage to Arthur Daleness and they were blessed with 3 children, Fenton, Averelle, and Dellarae.
In 1964 the family moved to Grand Island, Neb., and in 1973 moved to Doniphan, Neb. In 1986, Vera settled in Lexington, Neb., where she resided until her passing. She spent most of her life being a homemaker and taking care of her family.
Vera enjoyed listening to music, making fried bread, traveling and taking care of her dogs. Family was very important to Vera and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Vera is survived by three sons, Finley Plenty Chief (Fiance, Glenda Aguilar, Grand Island, Neb, Fenton (Tamra) Daleness, Bertrand, Neb, Averelle (Patricia) Daleness, Kearney, Neb.; daughter, Dellarae Daleness, Lexington, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and special friends, Kathy Reeves and Darlene Brush, Lexington, Neb; and her companion of 25 years, Swede Roberts.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur, 4 brothers, Clifford Chapman, Wesley Plenty Chief, Walter Plenty Chief Jr., Ervin Plenty Chief Sr., 2 sisters, Hope Plenty Chief Perkins, and Ramona Plenty Chief Yellow Bear.
