Vernon "Curly" Krzmarzick, 85, Garrison, died on Monday, February 27th at a Garrison hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison. A rosary will be said on Thursday at 6:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from Noon to 5 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison.
Vernon was born on February 8, 1927 to Michael and Mary (Reuter) Krzmarzick on the family farm west of Garrison. He was raised on the farm and attended school in Garrison. In 1948 the family moved their house to Garrison because of the formation of Lake Sakakawea. Curly lived his entire life in the house that was moved to town. He enlisted in the US Army in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1952. After returning home from the service, Curly went to work for the Ironworkers Union and was a member for over 50 years.
Curly had many hobbies. He enjoyed doing puzzles, going to the casino and going downtown to play cards. He was also the main transporter for his brothers when they had doctor's appointments. He also enjoyed going to the farm and "helping out" his nephews. His favorite pastime was fishing, and it didn't matter if he was fishing from shore or on the ice. He was a member of the Hugh P. Minehan American Legion Post # 49 in Garrison for over 50 years as well as a lifetime member of the Elks.
Curly is survived by his brother, Wayne Krzmarzick, Garrison; sister, Mary Lou Conley, Yukon, OK; nieces and nephews, Mike (Karen) Krzmarzick, Fairfax, VA, Missy (Donovan) Iglehart , Garrison, and their children, Matthew and Callie, Jim (Karen) Krzmarzick, Garrison, and their children, Joey, Jenna, and Mara, Tom (Diane) Krzmarzick, and their daughter, Courtney, Kris Conley, Dallas, TX, and Kerri Conley, Oklahoma City, OK; and sister-in-law, Janet Krzmarzick, Garrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Severin "Pete", Alois "Berries", and Ed "Etts" Krzmarzick, and brother-in-law, Bob Conley.
