Obituary

Vernon Rostad, 95, of Garrison, passed away on April 4, 2024.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home, Garrison, ND.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Roseglen, ND. Burial to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Vernon Ray Rostad was born on August 4, 1928, to Omar and Anna (Hansen) Rostad. He was raised in rural Roseglen, where he attended a one-room schoolhouse adjacent to the Rostad farm. Vernon was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Roseglen. Vernon lived on the Rostad homestead from birth until 1969.

On April 21, 1963, Vernon married Helen Reichenberg at Peace Lutheran Church in Hazen. Together they raised their children Pamela and Jeffrey. They farmed and ranched in the Roseglen and Ryder areas until 1995 when they moved from the farm to Garrison. After moving to Garrison they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Vernon was involved in many organizations over the years. He was a 4-H leader, volunteer at Camp of the Cross, member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church Council, and a member of the Garrison Lamplighters. He was the Vice President and the President of Prairie Hills Farmers Union Local, Vice President of the McLean County Farmers Union, Director of Ryder Farmers Union Oil Co., and Secretary and member of the Mercer-McLean Commission on Aging.

Vernon will be missed by his wife, Helen Rostad; two children, Pamela (Kory) Peterson, Horace, ND, Jeffrey Rostad, Lewisburg, OH; five grandchildren, Nathaniel (Ingrid) Peterson, Nicholas (Alyssa) Peterson, Matthew Peterson, Samuel (Abigail) Watson, Alyssa (Cody) Hess; six great-grandchildren, Barrett Watson, Sawyer Watson, Lincoln Watson, Scarlett Hess, Violett Hess, Colett Hess; brother-in-law, George (Mardell) Reichenberg; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Donald) Legacie, Marie (Harold) Mathisen; nephews and nieces, Clyde (Debby) Rostad, Elizabeth (Patrick) Godley, Michelle Aure (Stephan Olson), Nicole Legacie (Eddie Britton), Kelly (Char) Mathisen, Bridget (Michael) Roll, Jonathan Mathisen, Kathy Reichenberg; and several grand nieces and nephews.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Omar and Anna Rostad; brother, Lyle Rostad; niece, Carmin Bartole; nephew, Carl Reichenberg.
