Obituary

William (Bill) Boger, 93, Garrison, died Friday, March 31st in a Garrison hospital. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.

Bill was born September 15, 1923 in Coleharbor, ND to Daniel and Wilhelmina (Horning) Boger. He was baptized October 14, 1923 and confirmed at Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Garrison, ND on July 3, 1938. He was raised on the family farm east of Garrison with eleven brothers and sisters. He attended a country school west of the farm. He met the love of his life Beverly (Bev) at a dance in Wilton, ND. They were married at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Garrison ND on November 27, 1949. Bill and Bev recently celebrated 67 years of marriage. He was a lifelong member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and served on the church council.

Bill worked on the family farm and left at a young age to work at a local coal mine east of Garrison. Bill then joined the U.S. Army at the age of 21 and served with the 41st Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater (Southern Philippine Campaign), during World War II. He was very proud of his military service. He served his country from March 30, 1944 through April 27, 1946. Following his service he became a member of the Hugh P. Minehan American Legion Post 49 for 62 years. After leaving the service Bill worked for Traux Traer Coal Company, McLean County, Sorenson Construction and Lindteigen Construction.

Bill enjoyed fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren, gardening and making pickles, woodworking and refinishing antique furniture. He also enjoyed collecting rocks and tinkering with mechanical items, including his two Volkswagens. Another hobby was making wine and his homemade sausage. He loved playing with the many pets his children had and keeping in touch with his many friends and relatives. Bill also loved to tease and laugh with everyone he met. He was deeply proud of his children, their spouses, and especially his grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Wilhelmina Boger, sister Emma (Boger) Halquist and her husband Arnold, brother Elmer, brother Alvin and his wife Doris, brother Reuben and his wife Dorothy, brother Leo, daughter-in-law, Tammy Boger, granddaughter Kamella Boger, sister-in-law Josephine Boger, father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Beatrice Benedict, brother -in-law, George Benedict Jr. and his wife Jane, brother-in-law, Jim Benedict, sisters-in-law, Lavonne (Benedict) Jensen and Mary Lou Benedict.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly (Benedict) Boger, daughter, Audrey (Boger) Bjelland and husband Ron, son, William and wife Pamela, son, Danny and wife Sheila, grandchildren, Kristi (Harris) Miller, Kevin Harris, Ryan Shipman, Justin Boger, Steven Boger, and Brittany Thill, brother, Fred and wife Gert, brother, Edwin and wife Shirley, brother, John and wife Jean, sister, Marlene (Boger) Bauer and husband Jerome, sister, Ruby Boger, sister-in-law, Catherine Boger, sister-in-law, MaryAnn Seidler and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Legion Post 49 in Garrison.
